Welcome to Kandy

The magnificent monuments and the wealthy history make Kandy one of the Top Historical Destinations in the world. Kandy, the hill capital, is a large city in central Sri Lanka. Lake view set out, Tea plantations and bio diverse rain forests which is surrounded by mountains edges out this city as one of the awe inspiring places not to miss out.

Kandy, which is the penultimate fortress of the Sinhalese kings is one of the most sacred cities due the present of divine dental object which is housed in the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic (Sri Dalada Maligawa) attracts an endless stream of visitors throughout the year regardless of month,  which is a UNESCO world heritage site as well.

Kandy Lake, the beautiful water reservoir is the heart of the Kandy city and the picturesque ecosystem around it magnifies its presence. The fortress-style wall around the perimeter of the lake is a perfect spot to just breathe, relax and enjoy the peaceful beauty.    

During Esala Perahera (the festival of tooth) which falls in July-August, the whole Kandy becomes city of enlightenment with fire-dancers & drummers with elegant costumes, and decorated elephants in velvet cloaks are whole other thing for a memorable experience.

Mawanella, which is just 26km from Kandy, is well known for the Spice Garden to sample scents of one of Sri Lanka’s most celebrated exports. You can relish scents and flavours such as cinnamon, ginger, pepper, vanilla and cardamom.

Talking about Girigama, visiting the tea plantation which is 500m above Sea Level is the thing to adore due to its geological state and eye catching greenery. Tea was first planted in Sri Lanka back in 1824 at the Peradeniya Botanical Gardens.

How can you miss out the Elephant orphanage in Pinnawala which is just an hour drive from Kandy? Set in beautiful natural surroundings, the main attraction is clearly to enjoy the baby elephants milk bottle feeding and Elephant bathing sessions which are quite a spectacle. A must visit place for all the animal lovers.
