Head over to the Pottuvil Lagoon, situated 4km from Arugam Bay, concealed in thick mangrove forestry, and bask in the sheer splendour of the serene lullaby of the idyllic lagoon as you venture deep into the crocodile infested waters.

Nestled within the 200-acre lagoon is a small island, home to Sri Lanka’s elephants and endemic toque macaque monkeys, concealed within the island’s dense thicket. The thick mangrove forests lining the lagoon serve as a habitat for an eclectic medley of animal and bird life. Watch out for common coots, darters, herons, jacana, kingfishers, long-legged stilts, pelicans, sea eagles, and many other species of birds, including water monitor lizards and water snakes, as you glide through the calm waters of the lagoon.

This tour is ideally experienced at the break of dawn to witness the enchanting glow of the sun splayed through the waters and over the forests as the wildlife of the lagoon slowly comes to life.
