Undoubtedly, this is one of the prestigious national treasures in Sri Lanka in fact for Elephant spotting. The high probability of sighting Sri Lankan Elephants in the touching distance is one of the predominant factors of attraction. Established as the 5^th National Park of Sri Lanka on 1972, the water reservoir of Udawalawe National Park with an area of nearly 3,500 hectares is the largest reservoir in the vicinity and it is known as the “Walawe reservoir”. Different environmental conditions such as the dry weather are a driving factor of increased popularity in the island.

Chances of sighting herd of Elephants are immensely high near the reservoir and rivers. It’s a home for many other exotic creatures as well such as water buffalo, deer, snakes, turtles, crocodiles, monitor lizards and so on for hawk like wildlife-spotting eyes

The ideal time to visit is in between May – September where the dry season falls. Furthermore, the surrounding areas of Udawalawe are filled with other illustrious attractions. For instance, the Wavulpane Limestone caves, the hot water springs, as well as the Elephant Transit Home are all present in the vicinity of the Udawalawe National Park.
